How to tie it
Put 10 or 12 wraps of 0.015 lead-free wire over the middle to front half of a size 12 1XL nymph hook. Add more if you fish deep, fast water.
Start rusty brown 70-denier thread behind the weight, build a dam, wrap over the wire, dam the front, and take the thread back to the tail.
Select two brown goose biots from next to each other on the quill, flip one so the concave sides face each other, and tie them in splayed at the bend about a hook-gap long; set them slightly toward you on the first loose wrap so they roll into position as you tighten.
Bind the biot butts forward to the weight, trim, and smooth the taper; take the thread back to the rear.
Wax the thread, pull the guard hairs out of a pinch of muskrat, and spin a 2-inch noodle of the gray underfur onto the thread.
Dub the body forward to just past the midpoint of the shank.
Tie in a brown rooster hackle by a short stripped stem at the midpoint, then advance the thread to the head.
Dub the front half of the body with a second application of muskrat, right up to the eye without crowding it.
Palmer the brown hackle forward over the front half only, about four turns, then tie it off and trim.
Push the fibers back, build a good-sized thread head, whip finish four turns, and add a big drop of head cement or UV resin.
