Reference Recipe
- Hook Saltwater hook (fished bendback / point-up)
Materials
- Craft fur White craft fur (wing base)
- Dyed sheep's wool Two spirulina/algae colors (overwing)
- Crystal Flash (4 strands)
- Arctic fox Spirulina/algae green (soft body/wing)
- Ice Dub
- Shrimp chenille Fluorescent pink chenille (egg-sack collar)
- Crystal Flash UV blue flash (copepod nose)
- UV dab (optional plankton sheen)
How to tie it
- Tie in a short bunch of white craft fur over the shank in a slightly bent-back style, so the fly rides hook-point-up.
- Add a dyed sheep's-wool overwing in two spirulina/algae colors to box up and bulk out the wing (the wool is buoyant and translucent).
- Add four strands of Crystal Flash for a little translucence.
- Add a bunch of soft arctic fox in a true spirulina/algae color for the main algae-like wing/body.
- Tie everything down, then spin a small soft rope of Ice Dub and take a couple of turns, teasing it out (a touch of super glue helps hold it).
- Add a collar of fluorescent pink shrimp chenille to represent the shrimp egg-sack and act as a strike stimulator.
- Finish the nose with UV blue Crystal Flash to form the little blue copepod; optionally work in a UV dab to suggest a plankton cluster.
