Classic Recipe

  • Hook Articulated: rear Gamakatsu B10S #2-4; front Gamakatsu SL11-3H (or B10S) #1-2, joined by beaded wire, #1-4 (articulated)
  • Thread Tan (or olive/white to match) 140 denier flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Rear tail Barred rabbit (Zonker) strip, tan/olive (1 strip)
  • Rear body Ice Dub plus palmered grizzly-barred schlappen (matching) (as needed)
  • Flash Flashabou or Krystal Flash (few strands per side)
  • Articulation Beadalon wire with beads on the front shank (1 loop)
  • Front wing Barred rabbit strip along the top (1 strip)
  • Legs Barred rubber legs (Sili Legs) (2-3 per side)
  • Collar/head Schlappen and Ice Dub / laser dub, sculpin-style (optional lead eyes) (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Rear hook: tie a barred rabbit strip at the bend for the tail about a shank long, add flash each side, and build a dubbed and palmered schlappen body forward; tie off.
  2. Join to the front hook with wire run through beads on the front shank.
  3. Front hook: tie a barred rabbit strip along the top as a wing and add rubber legs at the sides plus a little flash.
  4. Wrap/dub a schlappen and Ice Dub collar and build a water-pushing head (dubbing or optional lead eyes); whip finish.
