Take about half a dozen Pheasant Tail fibers and tie them in on top of the shank as a very short tail; shorter is better on this fly. Wrap a little way down the bend over them, then bring the thread forward.
Tie a length of medium Pearlescent Tinsel in on top of the shank and bind it back to the tail.
Tie in the Olive Small D-Rib at the back, then bind forward with smooth, even wraps to cover it, trim the excess and leave the thread at the thorax position.
Wrap the D-Rib one turn, pull the tinsel forward over the top of it, take the next turn of D-Rib over the tinsel, then pull the tinsel back underneath and take another turn. Alternate over and under for four or five turns, capture both at the thorax and trim. The alternation gives a hint of flash and segmentation.
Wrap back to set the thorax length, about where the hanging thread meets the hook point, and tie in a strip of black Thinskin at the back of the thorax for the casing.
Tie two strands of Peacock Herl in at the back of the thorax. Take one turn of herl and capture it with a single thread wrap, tie a piece of Black Krystal Flash across the thorax by its middle, another turn of herl, another Krystal Flash, another turn of herl and the third Krystal Flash, for three legs a side. Take one more turn of herl if there is room, then capture and trim.
Pull the Thinskin tight over the top of the thorax, bind it with a couple of secure wraps, trim, and whip finish.
Spread the legs so they sweep back at a slight angle, pull them down together and trim them just past the hook gap, cutting at an angle so the front legs stay a little longer.
