Midge Pupa Bead
Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard nymph/scud hook, 16-22
- Thread Black 8/0
Materials
- Silver or copper bead Silver bead (1, sized to hook)
- Thread body Black thread (for body)
- Ultra wire Silver or copper wire (1 for rib)
- Peacock herl or dubbing Peacock/black flex floss (1 strand for thorax (optional))
How to tie it
- Slide the bead to the eye and mount the hook. Start thread behind the bead.
- Tie in a length of fine wire at the bead, then run a smooth, slim thread body down to the bend and back to the bead, keeping it thin.
- Wrap the wire forward in 5-7 evenly spaced open turns to form a bright, segmented rib; tie off behind the bead.
- Optionally take one turn of peacock herl or a touch of dubbing right behind the bead for a small thorax.
- Sweep any thorax fibers back and take a couple of thread wraps to settle them.
- Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement over the thread.
