Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph or jig hook, 14-18
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Black or gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Goose or turkey biots Brown goose biots (2 for tail)
  • Brown dubbing or pheasant tail Brown dubbing (for body)
  • Ultra wire Copper wire (1 for rib)
  • Thin skin or turkey Brown thin skin mottled (1 slip for wingcase)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye and mount the hook. Start thread behind the bead and run to the bend.
  2. Tie in two brown biots splayed into a short forked tail, about half a shank long.
  3. Bind in the copper wire rib, then dub a slim brown abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Rib forward with the wire in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Tie in a thin-skin wingcase, dub a fuller thorax to the bead, pull the wingcase over, and bind at the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
