Micro Soft Hackle Bead

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet/nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Orange or olive 8/0

Materials

  • Gold bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Pearl tinsel or thread body Pearl / hot orange tinsel (1 for body)
  • Partridge hackle Grey/brown partridge hackle (1 feather)
  • Peacock herl or dubbing Peacock ice dub (1 strand for collar (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye and mount the hook. Start thread behind the bead.
  2. Build a slim, smooth body of thread or fine tinsel over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
  3. Optionally add a short peacock herl collar just behind the bead for a little bulk and shine.
  4. Tie in a soft partridge feather by the tip just behind the bead, dull side toward you.
  5. Take 1-2 turns of the soft hackle, sweep the fibers back, and pin them with a couple of thread wraps so they breathe over the body.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
