Nymph · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Barbless competition jig hook, Hanak H 400 BL (or Firehole 516), #16-20
  • Thread Fluorescent orange or tan 14/0 Veevus

Materials

  • Bead Gold slotted tungsten, 2.0-2.5mm (1)
  • Tail Ginger Coq de Leon fibers (4-6 fibers)
  • Body Ginger/amber body quill (or ginger thread over a fine gold/copper holographic tinsel underbody for UV pop) (as needed)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent orange thread collar behind the bead (2-3 turns)
  • Coating Thin UV resin (-)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold bead to the eye and start the thread.
  2. Tie in 4-6 ginger Coq de Leon fibers at the bend as a tail about half a shank long.
  3. Build a slim ginger/amber body (ginger quill, or thread over a holographic tinsel underbody) up to behind the bead, keeping it torpedo-slim.
  4. Add a couple of turns of fluorescent orange thread as a hot-spot collar right behind the bead.
  5. Whip finish, then coat the body in thin UV resin and cure.
