Classic Recipe

  • Hook Barbless competition jig hook, Hanak H 400 BL (or Firehole 516), #16-20
  • Thread Black 14/0 Veevus

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten, copper or silver, 2.0-2.5mm (1)
  • Tail Ginger or pardo Coq de Leon fibers (4-6 fibers)
  • Body Black (or olive) tying thread, slim taper (as needed)
  • Flashback Pearl Mylar tinsel (or Mirage/opal) (1 strip)
  • Rib (optional) Fine copper wire (1 length)
  • Coating Thin UV resin (Solarez Bone Dry or Loon Flow) (-)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a short tail of 4-6 Coq de Leon fibers at the bend, about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in a strip of pearl tinsel at the bend (leave it pointing back) for the flashback.
  4. Build a slim, smooth, tapered thread body forward to behind the bead.
  5. Pull the pearl tinsel over the top of the body to the bead and tie off, forming a bright flashback strip down the back.
  6. Whip finish, then coat the whole body in a thin layer of UV resin and cure so it is glassy and slim.
