Micro Larva

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/grub hook, 16-20
  • Thread Olive or tan 8/0

Materials

  • Ultra wire Olive or amber ultra wire (1 length for body)
  • Fine dubbing Brown dubbing (tiny pinch for thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and run a smooth thread base from behind the eye all the way around the bend.
  2. Tie in a length of fine wire at the rear of the bend.
  3. Advance the thread forward to just behind the eye, keeping the underbody smooth.
  4. Wrap the wire forward in tight, touching turns to form a slim, segmented larval body; stop a short way behind the eye.
  5. Dub a tiny brown thorax collar to suggest the head and legs of the emerging larva.
  6. Whip finish and add a drop of cement over the thread head.
