Slide the Slotted Tungsten Chartreuse bead onto the jig hook, then start the thread and lay a short base layer.
Pull four or five fibers of Black Marabou from a plume, keeping the tips even. Tie them in as a tail just slightly longer than the shank, wrapping back to the bend to form it. Keep the tail thin; do not trim the butts, they become the body.
Take a single strand of Red Crystal Flash, lay it over the thread and pull it down so one length sits on each side of the tail as you bind it back. Snip both to tail length.
Wrap the thread forward, then fold the leftover marabou butts back along the shank to the tail.
Push the Fine Red Wire into the marabou at the tail so the tie-in is buried, bind it back to the tail, then advance the thread to just behind the bead.
Twist the marabou butts into a tight strand, six or seven turns, grip the end in hackle pliers and wrap it forward about four turns to the bead. Tie off, snip the excess as close to the bead as you can, and check there are fibers all the way up to the head.
Counter-rib the wire slowly forward, trapping as few marabou fibers as possible, and take a few turns at the head. Never cut the wire; spin it round a full turn to break it off clean.
Sweep the marabou back, build a small black thread collar to hold it rearward, and double whip finish. No head cement.
