Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig or 2XL streamer hook, 8-12
  • Thread Brown 6/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead or dumbbell eyes Copper/black dumbbell eyes (1)
  • Rabbit or marabou Rusty brown (1 small clump for claws)
  • Ice dubbing Brown/orange ice dubbing (for body)
  • Rubber legs Brown silly legs nymph size (1-2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Bead or dumbbell on, hook mounted, thread started and run to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short clump of rusty rabbit or marabou at the bend, splayed slightly, to suggest crayfish claws facing back over the hook eye (the fly is fished pincers-trailing).
  3. Add a pair of rubber legs at the rear, splayed to the sides.
  4. Dub a fat, buggy body of brown-orange ice dubbing forward toward the bead, tapering up.
  5. Add a second pair of rubber legs at the thorax, then build up dubbing to the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
