How to tie it
Mount a size 10 dry fly hook and lay down a good solid base of black UTC 70 thread so the deer hair will not slip on the shank.
Stack a small clump of deer hair, tie it in at the rear as a bushy tail about half a shank length long, and trim the butts.
Stack a second clump of deer hair and tie it in at the very back of the hook, measuring it at least as long as the body. This becomes the shellback and the wing.
Tie in at least six strands of peacock herl at the rear and wrap them forward into a big, fat body, bulk is the whole idea of this fly, stopping short of the eye.
Pull the rear deer hair forward over the top of the body, wrap over it lightly, then pull down to flare the ends up into a wing.
Take wraps in front of the wing to stand it upright.
Whip finish in front of the wing, just behind the eye, and cement.
