Meth Egg

Egg · Panfish · Smallmouth Bass · Largemouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/egg hook, Tiemco TMC 2457 or Mustad C49S, #8-14
  • Thread Red (or fluorescent orange) 140 denier flat waxed

Materials

  • Body Dyed pearl Diamond Braid (Crystal Chenille braid), steelhead orange, chartreuse, pink, cerise or fl. blue (1 length (about 5 in))
  • Hot spot (optional) Red thread collar (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread behind the eye and wrap back to above the barb.
  2. Tie in a 5-inch length of dyed pearl Diamond Braid at the bend.
  3. Meth/sucker-spawn style: form the braid into a small loop/bubble and lock it with a couple of thread wraps, then a second slightly larger bubble ahead of it, then a third, working forward to the eye to stack the egg-cluster bubbles.
  4. Simple-egg style alternative: wrap the braid forward in touching turns into a fat round egg, then tie off.
  5. Optionally leave a short braid tag at the rear as a sparkle tail.
  6. Build a small red thread hot-spot collar at the eye, whip finish, cement.
