Mercury Caddis Tungsten

Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved caddis/scud (Tiemco 2487), 14-18
  • Thread olive or tan 70 denier

Materials

  • Silver-lined glass 'mercury' bead Clear/silver-lined (1, small)
  • Tungsten bead Black bead (1)
  • Antron/dubbing Olive or tan dubbing (body)
  • Fine wire Copper wire (rib)
  • Dubbing Dark brown/black dubbing (thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a small silver-lined mercury bead on first, then a black tungsten bead behind it up to the eye; start thread behind them.
  2. Catch in fine copper wire at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim caddis-larva body of olive Antron forward over the rear two-thirds.
  4. Rib with 4-5 open, evenly spaced turns of copper wire; tie off and helicopter away the excess.
  5. Dub a slightly fuller, darker thorax up to the beads.
  6. Whip finish behind the tungsten bead and add a drop of cement.
