Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Bead Silver-lined glass (1)
  • Tail Dun fibers (sparse)
  • Body Olive thread or biot (slim)
  • Wingcase Black Thin Skin (small)
  • Thorax Olive dubbing (tiny)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a silver-lined glass bead to the eye and mount the hook. Start thread behind the bead.
  2. At the bend, tie in a few sparse dun fibers for a tail about half a shank long. Countable fibers only.
  3. Wrap a slim olive thread (or biot) body forward to the thorax, keeping the taper thin and even.
  4. Tie in a narrow strip of black Thin Skin at the thorax for the wingcase, tag pointing back over the body.
  5. Dub a tiny olive thorax up to the bead, half the dubbing you think you need.
  6. Pull the Thin Skin forward over the thorax and bind it down snug behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
