Body Olive UTC 70 tying thread, wrapped as a slim tapered body (as needed)
Outrigger legs Gray or tan Antron yarn (dark dun Z-Lon also works) (small pinch)
Thorax Black peacock ice dub (pinch)
Wing Natural (yearling) elk hair, cleaned and stacked (sparse clump)
Hackle Dun rooster neck/saddle (grizzly, brown or cree also work) (1 feather)
How to tie it
Start the olive thread behind the eye and lay a smooth base back to a point directly above the barb.
Tie in one strand of pearl Krystal Flash at the bend for the rib and let it hang.
Wrap the olive thread forward and back to build a slim, lightly tapered body ending at the 65% point.
Spiral the pearl Krystal Flash forward in 5-6 evenly spaced open turns to segment the body; tie off at 65% and trim.
At the front of the body tie a short pinch of gray/tan Antron across the shank and figure-8 it so a stub sticks out each side as outrigger legs, about one hook-gap per side; trim to length. These struggling legs are the pattern's signature.
Dub a small ball of black peacock Ice Dub for the thorax at about the 70% point.
Clean and stack a sparse clump of natural elk hair, measure it to just past the bend, and tie it in as a low down-wing over the thorax; trim the butts at the eye.
Tie in the dun rooster hackle and take 2-3 turns through and just ahead of the thorax, tie off, whip finish, add a tiny drop of head cement.
