Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Lead wire Natural lead wire (8-10 turns)
  • Goose biots Brown goose biots (2 (tail))
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (4-5 strands (body))
  • Oval tinsel Gold oval tinsel (rib)
  • Hen hackle Brown hen hackle (1 (collar))
  • Goose biots White goose biots (2 (wings))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye, add 8-10 turns of lead wire behind it, and shove the wraps up into the bead.
  2. At the bend tie in two brown goose biots, splayed into a forked tail about one-third shank long.
  3. Catch in gold oval tinsel and a bundle of 4-5 peacock herls; twist the herls into a rope and wrap a full body forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Counter-rib with 4-5 open turns of gold tinsel and tie off.
  5. Tie in a brown hen hackle and wind 2-3 turns as a sparse collar, then sweep the fibers down.
  6. Tie two white goose biots flat over the top in a shallow V for the wings, whip finish behind the bead, and cement.
