Materials

  • Waddington/intruder shank Black shank (1, ~25mm)
  • Trailer hook Black shank (1, size 1 octopus)
  • Braided loop Any tube (30lb)
  • Krystal Flash Red holographic tinsel (tail)
  • Ice/cactus chenille Black estaz (body)
  • Rabbit strip Black rabbit strip (wing and head)
  • Ostrich herl Black ostrich herl (6 strands)
  • Saddle hackle Grizzly hackle (2 (overwing))
  • Marabou Red marabou (1 (collar))
  • Lead eyes Painted dumbbell eyes medium (1 pair, large)

How to tie it

  1. Rig a size 1 octopus trailer hook onto the 25mm shank with a doubled loop of 30lb braid, point up, and lock the tag along the shank.
  2. At the rear of the shank tie in a sparse tail of red Krystal Flash.
  3. Tie in and wrap black ice chenille forward over the rear third for a body base.
  4. Tie a black rabbit strip over the top as the wing, about 1.5 shanks long, flanked by three strands of black ostrich herl on each side.
  5. Add two grizzly saddle hackles as an overwing, then wind a red marabou collar in front.
  6. Lash large lead eyes across the front of the shank, spin a small rabbit-fiber head around them, whip finish and cement.
