Medallion Midge Pupa

Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved scud/pupa (Tiemco 2487), 16-22
  • Thread black 70 denier

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Black bead (1)
  • Fine wire Silver wire (rib)
  • Medallion sheeting Clear scud back thin skin (1 strip (shellback))
  • Antron White poly yarn (2 short gills)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a black tungsten bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. At the bend catch in a strand of fine silver wire and a strip of clear Medallion sheeting.
  3. Build a slim, tapered thread body forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Rib the body with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of wire for segmentation and tie off.
  5. Draw the Medallion sheeting forward over the top as a shiny shellback and bind it behind the bead, shiny side up.
  6. Tie a short, stubby tuft of white Antron on each side of the bead for gills, then whip finish and add a drop of cement.
