  • Hook 60-degree jig hook, 2-6
  • Thread match color (rust/olive/black) 140 denier

Materials

  • Cone or tungsten bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Rabbit zonker strip Olive/rust/black rabbit zonker strip (1 (tail))
  • Flash Copper/pearl flash (few strands)
  • Round rubber legs Barred rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Estaz/cactus chenille Match pattern (body)
  • Schlappen or marabou Match pattern (1 (palmered collar))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a cone or tungsten bead to the hook eye and start thread behind it.
  2. At the bend tie in a rabbit zonker strip tail about 1.5 shanks long with a few strands of flash.
  3. Splay a pair of rubber legs to the sides at the tail base.
  4. Tie in Estaz and a schlappen feather, then wrap the Estaz forward to just behind the cone.
  5. Palmer the schlappen through the Estaz in 4-5 open turns and tie off.
  6. Add a front pair of rubber legs, whip finish behind the cone, and cement.
