Classic Recipe

  • Hook Streamer, 3x long, 2-6
  • Thread White or olive 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Rabbit strip (full)
  • Body Dubbing brush or chenille (full)
  • Head Fish-Skull Sculpin Head or cone (1)
  • Flash Flashabou (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the Fish-Skull Sculpin Head or cone onto the hook before mounting.
  2. Start thread behind the head. Tie in a rabbit strip tail at the bend, about one and a half shank lengths. The rabbit strip's undulating movement is the primary action.
  3. Add sparse flash alongside the tail, 4-5 strands.
  4. Build a full body with dubbing brush or chenille forward to the head.
  5. Tie off behind the sculpin head. Whip finish.
  6. Secure the head with a drop of super glue or UV resin where it meets the thread.

Substitutions

  • Tail instead of Rabbit strip: Magnum rabbit strip — Bigger profile; Pine squirrel — Smaller, trout-friendly
  • Head instead of Cone / sculpin head: Fish-Skull Sculpin Head — Broader sculpin profile; Tungsten cone — Simple, heavy
