  • Hook 60-degree jig hook (Gamakatsu Jig 90), 1/0-6
  • Thread match color (rust/black) 140 denier

Materials

  • Cone or bead Gold or black bead (1)
  • Lead wire underbody Natural lead wire (few turns, optional)
  • Rabbit zonker strip Rust/olive/black rabbit zonker strip (1 (tail))
  • Flash Copper flashabou (few strands)
  • Round rubber legs Barred rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Estaz/cactus chenille Match pattern (body)
  • Schlappen Match pattern (1 (palmered hackle))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a cone (or bead) to the hook eye and start thread behind it; optionally add a few turns of lead wire to load the front.
  2. At the bend tie in a rabbit zonker strip tail about 1.5 shanks long plus a few strands of copper flash.
  3. Tie two rubber legs at the tail base, splayed to the sides.
  4. Tie in a length of Estaz and a schlappen feather, then wrap the Estaz forward to just behind the cone.
  5. Palmer the schlappen forward through the Estaz in 4-5 open turns and tie off behind the cone.
  6. Add a second pair of rubber legs at the front, whip finish behind the cone, and cement.
