How to tie it
Mount a size 10 2XL dry fly hook and lay a gray thread base all the way back to the bend. There is no tail on this pattern.
Tie in a ginger dry fly hackle by its small end at the bend for the palmered rib. It does not need to be perfectly sized because it gets trimmed.
Tie in one strand of cream acrylic yarn at the bend and wrap the body forward to about the 65% point, then tie it off and trim.
Palmer the ginger hackle forward over the body in the same direction as the yarn wraps, tie it off at the front of the body, and trim.
Put in a half hitch, spin the fly and trim the palmered hackle short and even all the way around so it forms a bristly rib.
Tie a very sparse clump of yellow bucktail on top as an under wing with a pinch wrap, keeping it on top, and trim the butts; take the thread back far enough to leave room for a big front collar.
Fold a mottled turkey quill slip tent-style, lay it over the yellow bucktail so it extends just past the bend, and secure it with a couple of wraps; trim the butts and smooth the front of the shank.
Pair one ginger and one grizzly dry fly hackle, sized so the barbs are about a hook gap and a half, tie them in together at the front and trim the butts.
Wrap both hackles forward together, keeping the barbs perpendicular, until you are just short of crowding the eye, then tie them off with two securing wraps and trim close.
Push the barbs back, build a small head without sweeping the fibers back, whip finish four turns and add a small drop of head cement.
