Rubber legs (Crazy Legs) Hot orange rubber legs (feelers)
Ultra Chenille Cream ultra chenille (3 short sections, tips burned)
Laser Dub Gray superfine dubbing (body)
Mallard flank Natural mallard flank (top wing)
UV resin (and super glue)
How to tie it
Start hot-orange thread with a small gap behind the eye, build a thread base for the eyes, and tie the medium lead dumbbell eyes on top with X-wraps and under-wraps; run the thread back to the bend and add super glue or UV resin.
Pull a small amount of orange Ice Dub and align the fibers; tie a clump onto the near side at the center angling downward, then fold the other half down onto the far side and tie it in securely so it splays.
Clip two hot-orange rubber legs and tie them in on either side against the dubbing bump so they splay outward; trim the butts and clean up.
Make a dubbing loop and set it aside. For the legs, cut three short sections of cream Ultra Chenille and burn the tips to points; with the hook point up, lay a chenille leg across the shank and X-wrap, pull it so about half a shank-length sticks out the far side, then pull the legs rearward and tie against them; add the second leg halfway back and the third up against the lead eyes, then trim and burn the near-side tips to match.
For the body, align gray Senyo's Laser Dub, cut it into thirds, distribute it evenly in the dubbing loop, spin it up and brush it out.
Turn the hook point down and wrap the dubbing loop forward with tight touching wraps, snugging up against the chenille legs and weaving through them to position each leg, up to the dumbbell eyes; capture the loop and trim, then pick out and trim the body so it is not too bushy.
For the top wing, select a mallard flank with the right curve, measure it against the hook, strip the base fibers and trim the tip to make a notch; brush a drop of flexible UV resin into the feather and cure it, then tie it in on top splitting the eyes evenly and trim the excess stem.
Whip finish and cement the head, then trim the front legs to your desired length.
