How to tie it
Dress the shank with thread.
For the tail/shuck, pull just 6-8 fibers of gray Antron, tie them in at the thorax area, wrap back to lock them along the body, and trim to a short sparse tail (a too-full tail makes the fly ride poorly).
Lay a length of small gold wire along the shank up to where the thorax will begin, secure with touching wraps, then wrap the wire forward to the thorax; bend it back and helicopter to break it off.
Cut a thin strip of 0.5mm opaque-gray razor foam about a hook-gap wide and tie it in at the thorax pointing back over the body, as the wing case.
Take one peacock herl from lower on the eye feather (smaller barbs); touch a little head cement or superglue at the tie-in, then wrap the herl to form the thorax leaving a little space behind the eye, and secure by cording the flat thread and snapping the herl off.
Tie a few (5-6) hen-hackle fibers along each side of the thorax as legs, adjusting the length, with just a couple of wraps each side; lock with a wrap underneath.
Spread the legs, pull the foam wing case forward over the thorax with minimal wraps, and whip finish (a three-turn whip is fine). Trim the foam close over the eye.
