Start the thread. Tie in a small bunch of Coq de Leon fibers for the tail with one wrap on top and one soft wrap to align them, then trim the excess.
Dub a slim noodle of brown snowshoe rabbit and wind it slowly forward over about two-thirds of the shank, leaving room for the wing.
Tie in one large khaki CDC feather at the front: take a wrap close to the eye, pull the tip out, lay it on top of the hook and bind it back to the brown dubbing; trim the surplus leaving a short upright wing, and remove any stray fibers.
Tie in a brown/dun Whiting rooster hackle aligned with the shank.
Dub a natural squirrel-hybrid (grayish) thorax in front of the wing.
Wrap the hackle forward five or six turns to the eye, tie it off and trim, then lift the tip and lock it with a couple of wraps.
