  • Hook Ahrex FW550 Mini Jig
  • Thread Black

Materials

  • Head Turner tungsten bead Black nickel bead (1)
  • Ultra wire Black wire (One length)
  • Flashabou Red holographic tinsel (Body)
  • Pine squirrel zonker (Wing)
  • UV Straggle chenille, 5mm Black estaz (Collar (in place of herl))

How to tie it

  1. Set an Ahrex FW550 mini jig with a black nickel tungsten Head Turner bead and start black thread. Tie in black wire first.
  2. Wrap red Flashabou forward to form the body, leaving a little space behind the bead.
  3. Counter-wrap the black wire up the body for segmentation and, more importantly, protection. Bare tinsel does not survive many fish without a rib over it.
  4. Tie the wire off and helicopter it out.
  5. Tie the pine squirrel zonker on top of the shank, which looks upside down in the vise, because a jig hook rides point-up and that face is the underside when it fishes.
  6. Here is the variation: instead of the original's peacock herl collar, take a few wraps of 5mm black UV Straggle. It is far more durable than herl and it absolutely slays.
  7. Whip finish and glue the wraps.
