UV Straggle chenille, 5mm Black estaz (Collar (in place of herl))
How to tie it
Set an Ahrex FW550 mini jig with a black nickel tungsten Head Turner bead and start black thread. Tie in black wire first.
Wrap red Flashabou forward to form the body, leaving a little space behind the bead.
Counter-wrap the black wire up the body for segmentation and, more importantly, protection. Bare tinsel does not survive many fish without a rib over it.
Tie the wire off and helicopter it out.
Tie the pine squirrel zonker on top of the shank, which looks upside down in the vise, because a jig hook rides point-up and that face is the underside when it fishes.
Here is the variation: instead of the original's peacock herl collar, take a few wraps of 5mm black UV Straggle. It is far more durable than herl and it absolutely slays.
