How to tie it
Run the tag end of the 30-denier Nano Silk across dubbing wax so it grips, then start the thread a couple of eye-lengths behind the eye and lay a thin, flat thread base well down around the bend.
Catch the tip of a piece of medium Mirage tinsel at the bend, buckle it around the shank and bind the tag forward with flat wraps, then return the thread to the bend and leave it hanging there.
Wrap the tinsel forward in touching turns to just short of the eye, then wrap a second layer back over itself to the bend; tie it off with a few turns in front and one behind, and trim the tag.
Wax the thread again and touch-dub it: rub a wad of tan beaver up and down the waxed thread so the fur just sticks to it, then spin the bobbin to cord it into a thin, raggedy strand.
Starting at the bend, cover the tinsel tie-down with a couple of turns, then spiral the touch-dubbed thread forward in tight spirals right up to the hook eye. The tinsel shows through and ribs itself.
Lay a single strand of grizzly-bear Macet yarn in a couple of eye-lengths behind the eye and anchor it tight, then fold it around your scissor blade into a horizontal loop about as long as the body and anchor that with several tight wraps.
Trim the yarn butts out, take a few smoothing wraps over the stub, and add a small shot of super glue at the tie-in point. A lot is anchored at this one spot and Nano Silk is slippery.
Tie in a brown furnace saddle hackle by a long stripped stem at the wing tie-in point.
Take four or five tight turns of hackle immediately behind the forward-facing wing loop, tie it off and trim the tip.
Whip finish behind the wing and add a touch of cement or glue.
