How to tie it

  1. Wrap 7-10 turns of.020 lead wire around the mid-shank and cover it with a thread base.
  2. At the bend, tie in 5-7 mallard-dyed-wood-duck fibers as a tail one shank length long.
  3. Bind in a length of oval gold tinsel for the rib, then tie in a second bunch of wood duck fibers by the tips and lay them back to reserve for the wingcase.
  4. Dub a tapered body of blended otter and cream seal forward over two-thirds of the shank.
  5. Wind the gold rib forward in 5 evenly spaced turns and tie off.
  6. Dub a thicker thorax of the same blend to the 85% mark.
  7. Pull the reserved wood duck fibers forward over the thorax as a wingcase; split the leftover tips back along each side as legs, trimmed no longer than the hook point.
  8. Whip finish and cement.
