Tyer Recipe

  • Hook curved pupa/scud hook, #12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Black or silver bead (1)
  • Body thread/tinsel Black body thread tinsel
  • Butt Red buzzer wrap
  • Wire rib Silver wire
  • Breather gills White uni stretch (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Slide bead to the eye; start thread and wrap to a point above the barb.
  2. Form a short red butt at the rear to imitate the matchstick tip.
  3. Tie in fine silver wire for the rib at the rear.
  4. Wrap thread forward in smooth overlapping turns to build a thin black body ending one bead-width behind the bead.
  5. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 5-6 open, even turns; tie off and trim.
  6. Tie in a small tuft of white antron at the front for the breather gills and trim short.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead.
