Reference Recipe

  • Hook Gamakatsu B10S stinger (wide-gap), 4
  • Thread Brown 3/0

Materials

  • Micro rabbit zonker strip (tail) Natural/brown micro rabbit zonker strip (1 strip)
  • 2mm foam (overbody/back) Brown thin foam (1 strip)
  • Cross-cut rabbit zonker (body) Natural pine squirrel strip (1 strip)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend of the B10S hook.
  2. Tie in a micro rabbit zonker strip as a tail extending about one shank length; a drop of glue at the base keeps it from pulling out.
  3. Tie in a strip of brown 2mm foam at the bend pointing back over the tail, this becomes the back and floats the fly like a cork.
  4. Tie in cross-cut natural rabbit by the hide and palmer it forward in touching turns to the eye, stroking the fibers back each wrap for a breathing underbody.
  5. Pull the foam strip forward over the rabbit to form the mouse's back and head, binding it down behind the eye.
  6. Leave a short foam tab over the eye as a blunt nose, whip finish, and cement.
