Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook TMC 100 SPBL (standard dry), 16-20
  • Thread Olive Semperfli 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibett tails Dun microfibetts (4 (split))
  • Amnesia mono Fluorescent red amnesia mono (1 (parachute post))
  • Rooster hackle Dun hackle (1)
  • Kapok or superfine dubbing BWO (thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Start olive thread two eye-widths back on a #18 hook and keep the tag end for splitting the tails.
  2. Tie in four dun microfibetts a bit longer than the shank, wrap to the bend, then loop the tag around the bend and up between them to split two per side; wrap forward and trim.
  3. Flatten the middle of a piece of red Amnesia mono and tie it in as a parachute post with a figure-eight, then tight front and back wraps, leaving the thread on the far side behind the post.
  4. Turn the fly vertical in the vise and post the mono with thread wraps up and back down, adding a touch of super glue for a stiff post; return the fly horizontal.
  5. Tie in a prepared dun hackle at the base of the post.
  6. Turn the fly vertical again and wrap the hackle up and back down the post.
  7. Return the fly horizontal, dub a BWO thorax around the base of the post, tie down the hackle in front, whip finish, and trim the post short.
