Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard wet, 10-14
• Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

• Tail Partridge fibers (sparse)
• Body Hare's ear (rough)
• Rib Yellow silk (spiral)
• Wing Hen pheasant (slips)
• Hackle Partridge (sparse)

How to tie it

1. Mount the hook and run thread to the bend.
2. Tie in a sparse bunch of partridge fibres as a tail, one shank long.
3. Catch in a length of yellow silk for the rib, then dub a rough hare's ear body forward to one-third behind the eye and pick it out for legginess.
4. Rib with the yellow silk in 4-5 open turns to segment the body, tie off and snip.
5. Strip a partridge hackle and take 2 turns as a soft collar, sweeping the fibres down and back.
6. Roll a matched slip of hen pheasant into a wing and set it low over the body, tips to the bend.
7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
