Start the 140d Black thread right at the eye of the single salmon hook to close the gap of the return bend, and wrap evenly down the shank to a little past the hook point.
Tag: catch a length of large Lagartun oval silver tinsel by its tip on the near side, take five or six wraps down the bend and back, and tie off on top. Pull the tinsel so the metallic coating strips away from the core and only the core is trapped, then trim; this keeps the body smooth.
Cut a small bunch of Squirrel Tail, pull out the underfur, and tie it in at the base of the tag, about one shank length long. Cut the butts at an angle and bind them down.
Take the thread to where the return bend ends. Tie in the Lagartun Oval Tinsel Silver Medium along the side of the shank so it fills the step left by the return wire and the body stays smooth.
Tie in the Lagartun Flat Braid so it lines up with that same step. Wrap it in flat touching turns to the end of the return bend, capture it and trim.
Rib with the oval tinsel: one full turn at the back, then six to seven open turns forward. Tie off and trim.
Tie in UV Polar Chenille by the tip with the fibers facing down so they sweep rearward as it wraps. Three to four turns at the end of the return bend, leaving room for the marabou, mallard and eyes ahead of it.
Isolate the tip of a black marabou plume, tie it in just in front of the polar chenille and fold the tip back so it cannot pull out. Run the scissor edge along the stem to fold the fibers back and take three to five turns, no more, so the flash shows through. Tie off.
Collar: choose a Mallard Flank feather and set it so the longer side of the feather is the one wrapping around the shank; it cups the marabou and lays flat. Tie in by the tip, fold with the scissor edge, take three to four turns, lock it down and tidy the fibers.
Tie in a Pro Sportfisher Gen3 Jungle Cock on each side, angled slightly upward and matched for length. Trim the butts, build a neat head and whip finish; cut the thread.
Coat the head with Solarez Bone Dry, rotate to shape it, and cure with the UV light, starting at a distance and moving in slowly.
