Secure the dry-fly hook in the vise and start the tan thread at mid-shank.
Clean and stack a mixed clump of golden, white, and grey deer hair, spin or stack it onto the shank, and pack it tight to build a flared body from the bend forward.
Continue spinning and packing mixed deer hair forward, compressing each clump tight, up to just behind the eye.
Whip finish at the eye and remove the fly to trim.
Trim the spun deer hair to a slim, moth-shaped body, flat on the bottom.
Return the hook to the vise and tie in a clump of bleached coastal deer hair as a down-wing over the body, tips reaching about the bend; trim the butts.
Whip finish behind the eye and add a drop of head cement.
