Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Tail GP tippet (small)
  • Body Claret seal fur or sub (dubbed)
  • Rib Gold oval (fine)
  • Wing Bronze mallard (rolled)
  • Hackle Claret or black hen (beard)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of golden pheasant tippet fibres as a tail, half a shank long.
  3. Catch in the fine oval gold rib, then dub a claret seal-fur body forward to one-third behind the eye, keeping it slim.
  4. Spiral the oval gold rib forward in 4-5 even turns, tie off and snip.
  5. Roll a slip of bronze mallard into a wing and set it low over the body, tips to the bend; keep the wing marriage neat.
  6. Tie in a sparse claret or black hen beard below the shank reaching to the point.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
