Schlappen (first collar) UV2 purple schlappen (1 feather, one side stripped)
Guinea, large dot (second collar) Natural dark partridge (1 feather, one side stripped)
How to tie it
Mount the size 1 steelhead hook and rig a size 1 octopus hook as the trailing hook. Start fluorescent pink thread.
Tie in the UV2 salmon purple rabbit strip as the tail and cut it just past the trailing hook. Leave it a bit long, since rabbit shrinks up in the water and you do not want it short.
Add a few strands of UV purple Crystal Flash over the tail, rolling them around the hook as you tie them in so they distribute instead of sitting in one clump.
Tie in the fluorescent pink chenille and wrap it forward in touching turns, leaving plenty of room for two collars. Make sure the tie-off is secure or the chenille will unravel. A rotary vise makes this easier, and a dab of glue after each step makes a tougher fly.
Strip one side of a UV2 purple schlappen feather, tie it in by the tip, and take about three wraps for the first collar. Some like it heavy, some thin. Make sure the cut tip is tied down tight.
Lay down a little glue, then strip one side of a large-dot natural guinea feather, catch it by the tip, and wrap the second collar so it sets into the glue and cannot unravel.
Whip finish and build a neat head.
Before fishing, cut the front hook off so the fly rides on the trailing octopus hook only. Do not forget this step.
