How to tie it
Start thread behind the eye and work back to the hook point; trim the tag.
Cut a pencil-thick, roughly five-inch clump of Icelandic sheep; comb out all the underfluff, form a candle-wick shape in your fingers and pull the longest fibers out; lay the clump over the shank, roll it to encircle the hook, make two capture wraps, pinch and tie down tight with several wraps, then use a bodkin to pull fibers evenly around the shank.
Trim the butts (a rough angled cut toward the back is fine) and put down tight wraps to clean it up.
Tie in a second clump of sheep just in front of the first, slightly thinner and slightly longer so the tail ends match at about five inches; prep and capture it the same way, pulling stray fibers around the shank, then taper the butts toward the front to make a ramp.
Move the thread to the back of the tail base; trim the stem of a Senyo's Chromatic 3-inch live-bait brush and tie it in as far back as possible, tight against the sheep, wrapping to the back with about ten firm wraps; then bring the thread to just behind the eye.
Sweep the brush fibers rearward into a V and palmer about half the brush forward. Keep the first four or five wraps tight and touching to build a dense collar, and every two or three wraps pick the fibers out with a bodkin so nothing gets trapped and the tail and head blend without a gap.
Continue palmering to just behind the eye, tie off and trim the brush stem, then form a thread head and whip finish.
