- Hook heavy salmon/steelhead hook, 2-6
- Thread black 6/0
Materials
- Lead wire Gray lead wire (8-10 turns (optional))
- Marabou Black marabou (1 full clump)
- Krystal Flash Pearl or red flash (few strands (optional))
- Chenille Black chenille (medium, 1 length)
- Saddle hackle Black saddle hackle (1 feather)
- Chenille Fluorescent orange chenille (short length for head)
How to tie it
- Optional weight: lay 8-10 turns of lead wire over the front half of the shank, jam it back to mid-shank, and lock it with thread.
- Bind a full clump of black marabou at the bend for the tail, one shank length; add a few strands of pearl or red Krystal Flash if you like.
- Tie in a black saddle hackle by its tip and a length of black medium chenille, both at the bend.
- Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to the 70% mark and tie off.
- Palmer the hackle forward over the body in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns, bind at the 70% mark and snip; sweep the fibers back.
- Tie in fluorescent orange chenille and wrap a fat ball to just behind the eye for the egg head; bind and snip.
- Whip finish and cement the head.
