Classic Recipe

  • Hook wet fly (e.g. Kamasan B170), 10-14
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Golden pheasant tippet fibers (a few) (small bunch)
  • Body Flat silver tinsel (full shank)
  • Rib Fine oval silver tinsel (4-5 turns)
  • Hackle Blue dun or grizzle hen hackle, as a beard (1)
  • Wing Grey mallard or teal flank slips (matched pair)
  • Head Black ostrich herl (small)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and tie in a few golden pheasant tippet fibers as a short tail.
  2. Tie in the oval silver rib, then wrap a flat silver tinsel body along the shank and rib in 4-5 even turns.
  3. Tie in a blue dun or grizzle hen hackle as a soft beard swept down.
  4. Set matched grey mallard or teal flank slips as a low wet-fly wing over the body.
  5. Whip finish a small black head and cement.
