Materials

  • Midge saddle hackle Brown saddle hackle (1 feather (size 18))
  • Squirrel dubbing (body) Gray superfine dubbing (small amount)

How to tie it

  1. Dress the hook with thread and tie in a brown midge-saddle hackle by the stem at the front, leaving stem showing to control the wrap direction; wrap the stem down to the bend.
  2. Dub a tight, slightly shaggy gray-squirrel body forward.
  3. Throw a quick whip finish to lock, then palmer the brown hackle forward through the body in even turns.
  4. Tie off the hackle, take a few wraps in front, break off the tip, and whip finish.
