Put eight or nine wraps of 0.015 in lead-free wire on a size 14 1X-short curved shank hook.
Start black thread behind the wire, wrap over it, and take the thread back around the bend.
Tie in a length of Brassie-size contrasting wire for the rib at the bend.
Pull a small clump of marabou from the side of a plume, pinch off the wispy ends, and tie it in at the bend as a short tail. This same clump becomes the body.
Take the thread forward to the front of the weighted section. Wet your fingers, gather the marabou, and twist it into a rope, then wrap the rope forward to the thread.
Take a few wraps to flatten the front of the body. You need a clean base for the wing case and thorax.
Counter-wrap the rib forward in fairly close turns so a little flash shows through the marabou. Secure and helicopter off the excess.
Back the thread up slightly and tie in a turkey feather slip as the wing case, pointing rearward. This is mainly a base for the UV resin.
Tie in three strands of peacock herl, twist them lightly together, take the thread to the front of the thorax, and wrap the herl forward to build the thorax. Be careful not to crowd the eye.
Fold the turkey wing case forward over the thorax, tie it down, trim, and build a small head. Whip finish.
Put a dollop of UV resin over the wing case and cure it, adding a second if needed. Keep the resin off the peacock and out of the eye. Check with a piece of tippet that the eye is still clear.
