Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Pike · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook 6XL streamer, 4-10
- Thread black 6/0
Materials
- Tail Ringneck pheasant breast feather fibers (small bunch)
- Body White or cream floss (or cream fur) (1 strand)
- Rib Flat gold tinsel (1 length)
- Wing layer 1 Yellow bucktail (sparse)
- Wing layer 2 Orange and red bucktail, mixed (sparse)
- Wing layer 3 Red fox squirrel tail (sparse)
How to tie it
- Lay a thread base to the bend and tie in a short tail of mottled pheasant breast fibers, about half a shank length.
- Tie in the gold tinsel rib, then the floss; wrap a slim, even floss body forward to the 80% mark.
- Rib the body with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of gold tinsel and tie off.
- Tie in a sparse wing of yellow bucktail extending to the tail tip. Sparse is the rule for the whole wing, since trout fry are translucent.
- Layer a slightly sparser mix of orange and red bucktail over the yellow, suggesting the brown trout's spotted golden flank.
- Top with red fox squirrel tail for the mottled brown back, build a neat head, whip finish, and lacquer.
