Arizona Simi Seal dubbing Canadian black (Body and collar)
How to tie it
Set a Head Turner bead on a jig hook and start red thread, then tie in five or six pheasant tail fibres for the tail followed by small red wire.
Flip the fly over and tie a piece of medium opal tinsel right down the centre of the shank, leaving it hanging out the back. Flipping is necessary because a jig hook rides point-up. What looks like the underside in the vise is the back of the finished fly.
Dub a slim noodle of Canadian Black Arizona Simi Seal and build a thin body. Slim is the point here; the collar supplies the bulk later.
Pull the opal flashback over the body, tie it off and trim. On a small dark nymph the flashback is the only thing giving the fly a trigger point.
Counter-rib the red wire forward for segmentation, tie it off and helicopter the tag out rather than cutting it.
Spin a dubbing loop of the same Canadian Black Simi Seal (or split your thread) and wrap a short collar behind the bead, then whip finish. That shaggy collar gives the fly its legs and its movement.
