Materials
Foam, 2 mm (body) Two contrasting colors, typically tan over yellow (2 strips about one hook gap wide)
EP Fibers (wing) Tan craft fur (1 sparse clump)
Gator Hair (indicator post) Hot pink uni stretch (1 short clump)
Barred Sexy Floss, small (legs) Tan barred sexi floss (2 strands)
How to tie it
Mount a short shank size 10-14 hopper hook and lay a base of tan 6/0 thread from behind the eye back to the bend.
Cut two strips of 2 mm foam about a hook gap wide, one of each color, and stack them with the darker on top. Tie both down at the bend with the rear ends projecting just past the bend as a short butt.
Bind the stacked foam forward along the shank with two or three evenly spaced bands of tight wraps to segment the abdomen, stopping at about the 60 to 70 percent point of the shank.
Tie in a sparse clump of tan EP fibers on top as the wing, extending about one and a half shank lengths past the bend. Trim the butts on a taper and cover them.
Tie in a short clump of hot pink Gator Hair on top of the thorax and post it upright with a few horizontal wraps around its base. This is the sighter.
Tie a strand of small barred tan Sexy Floss along each side with figure eight wraps so two legs stand out per side. Trim them to about one shank length.
Pull the foam forward over the thorax and lock it down just behind the eye to form the head, then trim the front stub short to leave a small blunt lip.
Whip finish under the head and set the wraps with a drop of superglue or head cement.
