Tyer Recipe

  • Hook TMC 2488H (wide-gape scud/emerger), 18
  • Thread Olive Nano Silk 18/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Olive mottled slotted tungsten bead (5/64)
  • Hungarian partridge Olive dyed hungarian partridge (short tail)
  • Ultra Wire (small) Copper wire (1 (rib))
  • Bug foam (2mm) White thin fly foam (1 strip (wing case/back))
  • Ice Dub (hare's ear) Peacock ice dub (body and thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a 5/64 olive mottled tungsten bead onto a #18 TMC 2488H, seat it behind the eye, start olive Nano Silk behind the bead, and wrap to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short tail of olive-dyed partridge fibers at the bend.
  3. Tie in a length of small copper wire at the bend.
  4. Tie in a strip of 2mm white foam at the bend to be pulled forward later.
  5. Dub a slim body of peacock Ice Dub forward to just behind the bead.
  6. Spiral the copper wire forward as a rib and tie it off, then helicopter it to break.
  7. Pull the white foam over the top as a wing case/back, tie it down behind the bead, and trim the tag.
  8. Dub a small thorax collar of Ice Dub behind the bead, whip finish, and cement.
