Tungsten jig bead (Loon Insta Jig) (5/64")
Coq de Leon (De Leon) fibers Medium speckled coq de leon de leon fibers (generous clump)
Uni/Ultra wire Black wire (extra small)
Turkey biot or quill Dark olive turkey biot or quill
Mylar flash (or crystal flash) Pearl flashabou (1 small strand)
Turkey tail (narrow slip for wing case)
Frankendub (or short antron nymph dubbing) Olive ice dub
Midge flash Olive crinkle flash fine (1 strand)
Pheasant tail fibers (soft basal fibers) (5-6)
How to tie it
Slide the 5/64" jig bead onto the jig hook small-hole first and seat the hook in the vise. Start olive thread behind the bead.
Tie in a generous clump of medium speckled Coq de Leon for the tail, spacing the tips, at normal mayfly proportions but a touch longer; trim the excess butts.
Tie in a length of extra-small black wire alongside the shank and bind it forward to keep a uniform underbody.
Select a dark olive turkey biot with its natural curve facing down; tie in the tip, tack it, walk the thread back then forward so the ridge lies flat, and wrap (palmer) it forward to form the segmented abdomen a little past the tie-in; secure and trim.
Counter-wrap the black wire forward through the biot in even spirals, seating each turn in the segment gaps so the indentations read dark; tie off and helicopter the excess wire.
Tie in one strand of pearl mylar flash for a flashback, then tie in a centered slip of turkey tail as the wing case, both pointing rearward over the thorax area.
Dub a slim thorax of olive Frankendub, keeping it a bit thinner than the bead.
Tie in one strand of olive midge flash behind the bead for a leg accent, then tie a small bunch (5-6) of soft pheasant-tail fibers on top, splayed a bit longer than the body.
Twist the pheasant butts and cut them off cleanly with fine scissors so the legs stay put.
Pull the pearl flashback forward, then the turkey-tail wing case over the top; secure behind the bead and trim the flash slightly shorter than the legs so it tucks in.
Whip finish behind the bead and add head cement or resin.
