Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet/dry sedge hook, 10-14
  • Thread Tan / primrose 8/0

Materials

  • Body Light ginger/cinnamon seal's fur or dubbing (tapered)
  • Rib Fine gold wire (4-5 turns)
  • Body hackle Ginger cock, palmered (along body)
  • Wing Light landrail or pale mottled hen, tent-style (slips)
  • Front hackle Ginger cock (2-3 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in the gold rib and a ginger cock hackle by its tip at the bend.
  2. Dub a tapered body of light ginger or cinnamon dubbing forward toward the eye.
  3. Palmer the ginger hackle forward and secure it with the counter-wound gold rib.
  4. Set a low tent-style wing of pale mottled hen or landrail over the body.
  5. Wind two or three turns of a ginger front hackle, form a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
