Light Cahill Wet Fly

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wet fly, down eye, 12-16
  • Thread Cream/pale yellow 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Lemon wood duck flank Wood duck (for tail and wing)
  • Fur dubbing Cream/light ginger fur dubbing (1 pinch (body))
  • Flat tinsel rib Gold oval tinsel (4 in (optional))
  • Hen hackle Ginger hen hackle (1 feather (soft collar))

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and tie in a short wood duck tail about one shank length long.
  2. Tie in the gold tinsel rib, then dub a slim cream body forward to the 75% mark.
  3. Spiral the tinsel forward in 4-5 even turns and tie it off.
  4. Tie in a ginger hen hackle by the tip and take 1-2 soft turns for a collar, then sweep the fibers down and back.
  5. Gather a bunch of lemon wood duck fibers, measure them to the hook bend, and tie them in as a wing sloping back over the body.
  6. Trim the butts, build a tapered head, whip finish, and cement.
